Today,
only the cloister building and the church, combining the romantic
and the gothic style of construction, still exist.
The
34m long and 8m wide long church, renovated in 1982 - 1985, is devided in 3 areas, and has a unique detail: On the "Nonnenempore",
a raised area especially for the nuns, the nuns were able to
celebrate the church ceremony together with the normal people
below. These ceremonies were once held in front of a raised altar
of which nowadays only the foundations are still visible. The
lower church is situated below the "Nonnenempore". This
was once the tomb of the "founding family" of the
cloister, and was then connected to the upper church by two
romantic arches.
This
part of the church (renovated in 1962), with its cross - ribbed ceiling,
is nowadays the evangelical church of Frauental. |
