The
stretched Upper Church ends in the east in a polygonal choir.
The high arch has a square profile, a sign for the romanic
style. The slim semi-pillars in the six corners of the choir are
in the early gothic style. They and the two others, on the north
and south side, are decorated with palms and buds. This is
supposed to liven up the room and make it light.
Traces
on the ground hint to the ancient raised altar which was
destroyed in the farmers rebellion. Above this you can see three
wooden figures (late gothic): on the right hand side: Benedikt
of Nursia, next to Mary with Jesus on her arm, and on the left
the founder of the cloister Bernard of Cairvaux.
The
Epitaph on the northern wall shows a vision of the prophet
Hesekiel in chapter 37. The gravestones in the back of the Upper
Church prove of a self - certain class of Frauental farmers. |
